Since the 409 MHz frequency became open to the public (i.e. you can broadcast without a licence), there has been a great demand for the walkie-talkies in Hong Kong. It becomes a trendy gadget amongst teenagers, since talking to strange persons on air is such a fresh idea like ICQ in its early days. The edge for walkie-talkies is that you can hear the voice of the person on the other side.

The surprise does not just come from talking to strangers, but also from the distance your walkie-talkie can reach. Most of these 409 MHz walkie-talkies can cover 3 kilometers, but it all depends on the obstacle between the stations. There is user's report saying that a station in Pokfulam can talk to someone in Tsing Yi.

Google Bombing

The most popular search engine hits the newspaper headlines again. This time, a bunch of webloggers did a trick called “Google bombing” against the President of the United States, G. W. Bush.

The site owners just put a link in the webpages with the term “miserable failure” pointing to the biography of G. W. Bush, and Google will do the work, i.e. putting Bush’s bio as the top result when you search “miserable failure”.

According to the news report, it only took 32 persons to make this joke againt the President.
