Guestbook

A few guests of this blog said that I don’t have a place for general comments. So I choose the easiest way to set up a guestbook — making an entry with WordPress.

There are many advantages with this method: I can manage / backup all the messages, I can screen out spams by the plugin

So, please leave any message you like here. Or, if you have anything private which you wish to whisper to me, send an e-mail to me (you can find my address illustrated with an icon made by this generator on the sidebar).

[EDIT:  This "guest book" is now closed because of the flood of spam messages]

New Theme

It is about 6 months since I last changed the theme of this site (in fact, I also changed the software at that time). Originally I planned to use the Kubrick theme but it seemed to require a number of changes to the template files. So I pick the easy way and get the “Summer Breeze” from alexking.org.

By the way, one of the new themes in alexking.org is called “iPod Mini“, and the fonts it uses are really miniscule.

Photoblog

I have merged my MT photoblog (actually there were only a handful of posts) in here. I have read about Pictorialis and Gallery, but I finally adopted the hack provided by the blog Tell it in Love.

But I have problems to apply the hack to quicktag.js as described. After I replaced the code and uploaded the amended file to my server, it does not do the trick. In Firefox, the old quicktag showed up which asked for the complete address of the photograph rather than just its filename. In Internet Explorer, it is more absurd: all the quicktags were gone! I originally thought that it might be a cache problem, I tried several times and the problem was still there. Finally I gave up this supposed-to-be-great quicktag modification and only went with the popup code, which works perfectly.

So now I have my photoblog installed. Although I am not completely satisfied, I can live with it for a while :)

Moved Again

I finally moved to a new hosting company icdsoft which provides only one hosting plan, with 333 MB storage and 5GM monthly bandwidth, which are more than enough for me.

My old host 0101 host is quite good actually. They have a 24-hour hotline to answer questions, which I believe is really 24×7 because I gave them a very late call and received live response. I am totally satisfied with their customer service and their attractive pricing scheme. The only thing I am discontent with them is that they do not install some software for you, whilst those software can only be installed by them, e.g. NetPBM.

Anyway, with my WordPress blog installed, it is time for me to shop around for solution to implement a photoblog here. I have read some posts in the WP forum but have not found the perfect answer yet. I would appreciate any suggestion.
